I run product at an AI company on top of a fleet of agents I built myself. My thinking lives in one place, and the agents read it: they keep every tool my team uses in sync, turn decisions into tickets, keep the docs current, and even draft my published writing from the week's real work. I spend my time on judgment instead of logistics. When I install this for a company, I'm not handing over a theory. I'm transferring the system I depend on every day, including the parts I had to fix the hard way.
Early on I gave a sync agent too much autonomy, and it confidently pushed half-formed notes to a surface my whole team reads as truth. Later, a different agent quietly edited a live shared document nobody asked it to touch. Nothing it wrote was even wrong, which is the unsettling part.
The rule I now build everything on, and install for every client: an agent never writes to a trusted, shared surface without explicit permission. It can draft, it can stage, it can suggest. It cannot silently change a thing the team treats as canonical.
That is the difference between an AI demo and an AI system in production. Knowing where to put the gates is most of the job.
